Singing lessons

Singing lessons offer more than just vocal training—they help you build confidence, develop proper technique, and reach your full potential, whether you’re a beginner exploring your voice or an advanced singer refining your artistry.

While some people have a natural talent for singing, technique, control, and endurance come from proper training. Even professional singers continue to take lessons to maintain and refine their voices.

Absolutely! If you’re new to singing, lessons will help you:

  • Build confidence in using your voice
  • Learn fundamental vocal techniques like breathing, pitch, and tone
  • Discover your natural vocal range and how to extend it safely
  • Develop good vocal habits to avoid strain and injury
  • Gain an introduction to different styles of singing and repertoire

Even if you’ve never sung before, everyone has the potential to improve their voice with the right guidance!

For parents and guardians

What are the responsibilities of parents or guardians?

Parents/guardians are responsible for dropping off and picking up their child on time and ensuring their child has everything needed for the lesson.

Our studio at West End has a designated waiting area for parents and guardians.

Parents are welcome to stay during the first lesson. After that, we encourage students to attend independently, though parents can wait in the designated waiting area.

If a parent is late picking up a child, we will first attempt to contact the parent/guardian. If they are more than 15 minutes late, an additional fee may apply for supervision time. If we are unable to reach a parent and a significant delay occurs, we may need to take further steps to ensure the child’s safety.

For safety and focus reasons, we ask that only the student attends the lesson unless prior arrangements have been made.

Yes! I hold a current Blue Card, which is required for working with children in Queensland. This means I have undergone the necessary screening and background checks to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for students of all ages.

If you have any concerns or would like to verify my Blue Card status, feel free to get in touch for more information.

Every child develops differently, but most children can start singing lessons from around 5 to 7 years old.

For young children (ages 5-7): Lessons focus on fun, confidence-building activities, such as:

  • Exploring pitch and rhythm through songs and games
  • Developing basic breath control and vocal coordination
  • Encouraging natural expression and creativity
  • Keeping lessons engaging and playful to suit shorter attention spans

For children aged 8 and older: Lessons introduce more structured techniques, including:

  • Learning healthy vocal habits to prevent strain
  • Improving pitch accuracy and vocal range
  • Developing musicality, ear training, and stage confidence

If you’re unsure whether your child is ready, we recommend booking a trial lesson to see how they respond to singing in a lesson environment.

Absolutely! Singing lessons can be a wonderful experience for children with special needs, providing them with an outlet for creativity, self-expression, and confidence-building. Every child is unique, and lessons can be adapted to suit their individual abilities, learning style, and needs.

How are lessons adapted for children with special needs?

  •  Flexible teaching approach tailored to the child’s pace and comfort level
  • Use of visual aids, movement, and multi-sensory learning
  • Focus on fun and engaging activities to build confidence
  • A calm, encouraging environment that supports emotional well-being
  • Lessons that emphasise rhythm, melody, and vocal play rather than rigid techniques

What kinds of special needs can be accommodated?
We welcome students with a variety of needs, including (but not limited to):

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADHD
  • Speech or language delays
  • Anxiety or social challenges
  • Physical disabilities (adjustments can be made as needed)

Can parents or support workers stay during the lesson?
Yes! Parents and support workers are welcome to sit in on lessons or discuss any specific support strategies in advance to ensure the best experience for their child.

If you’re unsure whether singing lessons would be a good fit, we recommend booking a trial lesson to explore what works best for your child in a safe and supportive space. Feel free to reach out to discuss any specific requirements or accommodations.

Whether your child wants to work on classical, pop, musical theatre, jazz, or rock, lessons can be tailored to your child’s style and goals.

We encourage students to suggest songs that they would like to sing. However, sometimes the suggested song choices may not be appropriate for younger students. We will actively avoid songs that have explicit language, have explicit adult themes or may be typically considered inappropriate for the age and stage of your child.

We understand that each parent has different levels of tolerance of what is acceptable and appropriate for your child. From time to time, we may contact you about whether a song choice is appropriate for your child. In return, we ask that you contact us if you have concerns about any song choice.
